Viajar siempre es una experiencia enriquecedora; esto es porque te permite explorar nuevos horizontes y entender cómo se vive en otros países. Sin embargo, hay situaciones de las que debes estar alerta, porque por ser turista, eres un blanco para ser estafado si estás desinformado. Por eso, te comparto 3 formas para evitar una estafa.
- ¡Cuidado con los taxis!
Hay países en donde los taxis usan taxímetro, en otros hay tarifas establecidas para los lugares más frecuentados por los turistas, mientras que en algunos debes negociar cuánto te cobrarán por ir a un lugar específico. La recomendación es averiguar las tarifas promedio o cuánto deberían cobrar los taxistas por kilómetro, de esta forma evitarás que te cobren de más. También, mantente pendiente del taxímetro porque si ves que la cuenta va subiendo de forma incoherente, ¡Algo anda mal!
- ¡Evita las fotos con “famosos”!
Hay lugares muy turísticos en donde hay personas se visten de acuerdo a la atracción más emblemática de ese país. Por ejemplo, si vas a Italia encontrarás a más de alguien vestido de gladiador o soldado romano. Obviamente, esto es muy atractivo para los turistas y ese momento piensas que sería perfecto tomarte una foto con esta persona disfrazada; sin embargo, ¡Estas fotos no son gratuitas! Si no tienes cuidado, te cobrarán $20 o más por una foto así.
- ¡Ojo con lo que tomas con tus manos!
Recuerdo muy bien en un viaje a Egipto, un vendedor puso en mis manos un souvenir y empezó a cobrarme solo porque lo tenía en la mano. Claramente, el guía intervino y le dijo que no estaba interesada en comprar el souvenir. En otro mercado, solo por tomar el souvenir para verlo bien, el vendedor insistía que lo comprara. Lección: no tomes nada con tus manos y si lo haces, será mejor que lo compres para evitar problemas.

3 ways you can avoid being a scammed tourist.
Travelling is always an enriching experience since you´re able to explore new horizons and understand how people in other countries live. Nonetheless, there are situations in which you must be vigilant, because just for being a tourist, you´re a good target for a scam! Therefore, you´ll find 3 ways in which you can avoid being part of it!
- Beware of taxis!
There are countries in which taxis use taximeters, others have established fares to the most touristic spots in the city, while others you must negotiate how much they will charge you. The recommendation is that you should search the average prices or how much a taxi driver should charge per kilometer or mile. In this way, you´ll have a better idea and won´t end up paying extra! Also, try to observe the taximeter every once in a while, since it might speed up in an unreasonable way.
- Avoid taking pictures with “famous” people!
In the most touristic places, you´ll find people dressed up according to the attraction of their country. For instance, if you go to Italy, you´ll find more than one person dressed as a gladiator or Roman soldier! Obviously, this is very attractive for tourists and in that moment you just think that if you take a picture with this person it will be so perfect to share with friends. But, beware that these photos are not for free and depending where you take it, you can end up being charge $20 or more for this “souvenir”!
- Don´t touch it!
I still remember during a trip to Egypt when a seller placed a souvenir on my hand and to charge me just because I was holding it. The tour guide had to intervene and told this man that I was not going to buy it. In another street market, just because I took a souvenir to see it closer, the seller insisted that I had to buy it. The lesson: don´t touch souvenirs and if you do so, you better buy it so you can avoid further problems!
