Recuerdo como si fuera ayer el 1 de enero del 2020 cuando regresaba feliz del viaje de fin de año… ¡Quién se iba a imaginar que desde entonces no me subo a un avión!

Les confieso, desde el 2016 estaba esperando el 2020, porque para este año tenía planeado hacer el «viaje de mi vida» a un país exótico y fuera de lo común.

Al llegar el 2020 hubo cambios en mi vida que modificaron un poco este dichoso viaje pero tampoco lo impedían; sin embargo, como a todos, la pandemia puso pausa en el plan. Tanto así, que se pasó todo el año y no salí del país, ¡ni siquiera a Guatemala!

Ahora, 31 de diciembre del 2020, al recordar los diferentes lugares a los que fui antes de la pandemia y después de la reapertura de la cuarentena, reconozco que tenía mucho de no valorar la sencillez de escuchar el sonido del viento al jugar con los pinos, ver el agua del lago de Coatepeque teñirse de naranja por un amanecer, ver nubes con tonos rosa por un atardecer en la playa, embarcarme a una isla con desconocidos, probar platillos riquísimos y reconectar los sentidos… sin tener que salir del país.

Al finalizar el año del «viaje de mi vida», solo les puedo decir:

• Si hace un «mal» clima, ¡disfruten!
• Si el agua del mar, río, lago o lo que sea, está heladísima, ¡báñense!
• Si lo que planearon no pasó, ¡ríanse!

Porque quien sabe… quizá no exista otro fin de semana u otra oportunidad de regresar, así que vive el día a día… porque lo único seguro es el ahora.

Que este 2021 esté lleno de aventuras, paisajes que te quiten el aliento y curiosidad por conocer lugares nuevos, aún dentro de tu país.

Pd. Este año se rompe la tradición de recibir el año nuevo en Panamá, después de 7 años seguidos. ¿Qué si recibiré el 2022 otra vez en Panamá?… ¡Por lo menos esperemos a que llegue mi cumpleaños antes de planear algo para el otro fin de año… la vida es demasiado incierta! 😀

2020: the year I stayed home!

I can easily remember January 1st, 2020 when I was returning happily from my end-of-year trip… little did I know that it would be the first and last time I´d be traveling in an airplane for the rest of the year! 

To be honest, since 2016 I was waiting for 2020 to come, as I had pictured it to be the year in which I´d undertake the «trip of my life» to an exotic and unpredictable destination. 

As 2020 arrived, changes occurred in my life which caused certain modifications to my plan. Well, you can figure out that with the lockdown my trip was paused. So I spent my 2020 without going out of my country… not even to the neighbor country, Guatemala! (I live in El Salvador)

Today, December 31st, 2020, I look back and realize that I’m grateful for the places I was able to go to before and after the lockdown. It had been awhile since I didn’t marvel at the sound of the wind when playing with pine trees, watching the water of Coatepeque Lake turn orange due to the sunrise, clouds painted in rose gold because of an impeccable sunset at the beach, riding on a boat to an island surrounded with strangers, eat exquisite dishes, reconnect with the senses… without going out of the country.   

As the year of the «trip of my life» comes to an end, I can only advise you:

• If it makes a «bad» weather, enjoy it!
• If the oceans´ water is too cold, whatever, just dive in! 
• If your plans turn upside down, laugh!

Because who knows if another weekend will come or if you´ll have the chance to go back to the place you went to. Life can be so unpredictable and we better take it day by day! 

May 2021 be filled with adventures, breathtaking views and curiosity to explore… even if it’s within your country. 

Ps. This year the tradition of celebrating New Year’s Eve at Panama has come to an end, after 7 consecutive years! Will I spend 2021 New Year´s Eve back in Panama? Uff, please, take it easy! Let me get to my birthday first and then we might start planning something! 😀
