Cuando alguien me menciona el país Italia, vienen a mi mente muchos recuerdos inolvidables. He tenido la bendición de visitarlo varias veces pero no lo suficiente para decir que conozco cada pueblo o ciudad que quisiera. Aún así, lo poco que conozco me motiva a escribir este artículo en donde te otorgo una visa para viajar virtual para transportarte a la capital italiana: Roma.
Roma, la gran ciudad el imperio Romano; la cual al caminar por sus calles empedradas sientes cómo si estás en la película “El Gladiador” con la única diferencia que en los alrededores verás tiendas de marcas exclusivas. Lo mejor de todo es que para recorrerla es posible hacerlo caminando o comprando tickets que te permiten subirte en bus, tranvía y metro.
Te recomiendo que para que te lleves la esencia de esta ciudad hagas lo siguiente:
- Visita el Coliseo y el Foro Romano
Para llegar a estos monumentos, fácilmente es posible hacerlo tomando un bus. Recomiendo que te bajes donde inicia la vía del foro romano para que camines a lo largo y logres ver la grandeza del imperio. Además, verás las estatuas de los diferentes emperadores que gobernaron hace mucho tiempo. Al final de la vía, llegarás al Coliseo, donde tendrás la oportunidad de entrar y tomarte fotos dentro de este emblemático lugar.
- Prueba las pastas (la pizza no debe faltar)
Alrededor de las diferentes plazas encontrarás restaurantes en donde sacan las mesas para que comas al aire libre. Si tienes la oportunidad de hacerlo, ordena una deliciosa pasta acompañada de un vino italiano. Otra opción, es comprar porciones de pizza para llevar las cuales se venden en establecimientos más pequeños.
- Come un delicioso gelato
La gastronomía italiana tiene una muy buena fama y en los postres la opción que debes probar es el gelato. Éste es un helado suave y menos cremoso que un helado tradicional. Encontrarás sabores como la famosa vainilla como otros más exóticos incluso hechos a base de licor.
- Conoce sus plazas y fuentes, entre ellas, la Fuente de Trevi
Roma tienen muchas plazas y por lo general éstas tienen fuentes muy peculiares; entre ellas, la Plaza de España, la Plaza Navona, la Plaza Venecia, entre otras. Una que recomiendo que no dejes de visitar es la fuente de Trevi, la cual es la más grande de la ciudad. Aquí la gente acostumbra tirar monedas a la fuente y esto se debe a que existe un mito:
Si tiras una moneda, regresarás a Roma.
Si tiras dos monedas, encontrarás el amor con un(a) italiano (a) .
Si tiras tres monedas, te casarás con la persona que conociste.
- Visita el Estado del Vaticano
Dentro de la ciudad romana, está el Estado del Vaticano. Aquí encontrarás la Basílica de San Pedro, Capilla Sixtina y las tumbas de los papas, entre ellos, San Juan Pablo II. Si visitas El Vaticano un domingo, al mediodía, el papa reza el Angelus desde su balcón y da la bendición a todos los que estén en la plaza.
Estos son sólo unas cuantas cosas que debes hacer en Roma; sin embargo, si eres católico, deberías visitar las diferentes iglesias que tienen los nombres de muchos santos y que posiblemente tengan sus reliquias.

Visa to Rome
When somebody mentions me something about Italy, it reminds me of great memories I have from this country. I´ve had the blessing that I have visited it many times but not enough to say that I know every town and city well enough. Nonetheless, what I know about it motivates me to write this article in which I want to give you a visa to travel virtually to the Italian capital: Rome.
Rome, the great city of the Roman Empire is full of rich history, emblematic monuments and unique architecture. When you walk around, you have the sensation that you´re a character of “The Gladiator” movie with the difference that the city has evolved and become cosmopolitan. Rome has the advantage that you can get around either by walking or with a metro, bus and tram ticket. And in order to live the essence of this city, I recommend you to do the following:
- Visit the Coliseum and the Roman Forum
Try walking along the Roman Forum Via so you can get the chance to see what´s left from the Empire´s greatness. As you pass by, you´ll be able to see the ruins of the ancient city and statues from the different emperors that governed during the glorious days of the Roman Empire. At the end of the via, you´ll get to the Coliseum; where you´ll have the opportunity to enter and take pictures of this interesting place.
- Eat some pasta…including pizza!
As many Italian cities, when in Rome you´ll see many restaurants and cafes with tables placed on public squares. Get the chance to eat delicious pasta with Italian wine. Another option if you want to enjoy a slice of pizza is looking for small establishments where you can have a slice to-go.
- Have some gelato!
Italian gastronomy is famous worldwide and desserts aren´t the exception! Therefore, you must try a gelato, which a soft ice cream less creamy than traditional ice cream. You´ll find the famous vanilla flavor and others that you can enjoy year-round.
- Get to know the public squares, fountains; especially, the Trevi Fountain
You´ll notice that Rome has many public squares which usually have peculiar fountains; among them, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia and Piazza Spagna. All of them are beautiful and worth visiting, but the Trevi Fountain is the biggest in this city and you shouldn´t miss visiting it. People tend to throw coins to the fountain because there´s a myth that says the following:
If you throw a coin, it means you´ll return to Rome.
If you throw two coins, you´ll find an Italian lover.
If you throw three coins, you´ll marry the person you met.
- Visit the Vatican City State
Within the Roman city, the Vatican City State is located. In here, you´ll find Saint Peter´s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the tombs of popes, among them, St. John Paul II´s. If you visit this place during a Sunday at noon, you´ll be able to see, pray and receive the Pope´s blessing from his balcony.
Rome offers these and many other attractions. If you´re Catholic, you can visit many churches and museums to enrich your faith.
