Después de ver algunas fotos del Papa Francisco que se han viralizado por su visita a México, me he acordado de un viaje que hice hace unos años a la capital mexicana durante un frío diciembre. En esa ocasión, recuerdo lo sorprendida que estaba por tantos lugares importantes y bellos que logré visitar y que me dejaron con intención de regresar. Aquí comparto un pequeño resumen de los lugares que considero que no debes perderte en el famoso México D.F.
- Catedral Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México y El Zócalo
Para llegar acá, es posible hacerlo a través de taxi, metro o autobús. Si crees que en algún momento te perderás para llegar, toma de referencia que estos lugares están en el centro histórico de la ciudad. Lo que más me impactó de este lugar es que está construido sobre templos aztecas. Hay partes que están al descubierto y logras ver la perfección con la que trabajó esta civilización.
2. Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe
Una de las imágenes de la Virgen María más reconocidas alrededor del mundo es la de la advocación de Guadalupe. Aquí tendrás la oportunidad de ver la tilma (pedazo de tela) en donde la Virgen María dejó retratada su imagen desde 1531. La época en la que más visitan este santuario es en diciembre, dado que el día 12 de ese mes es su celebración.
3. Museo Frida Kahlo – Casa Azul
En la delegación de Coyoacán del Distrito Federal está ubicado el museo Frida Kahlo, el cual es una casa azul en donde ella vivía con su esposo Diego Rivera. Te será interesante ver muchos de sus dibujos y pinturas que expresan sus sentimientos de frustración, triste, entre otros de Frida por los diferentes acontecimientos que impactaron su vida. Recorre la casa con tranquilidad y viaje en el tiempo y en la realidad de México y de las mujeres de aquella época.
4. Taquerías y ventas de tortas
Una de las grandes características de México es su comida. Es por eso que debes ir a una de las muchas taquerías y ventas de tortas. ¡Tienes que probar esta exquisita comida en México D.F.! Si eres valiente, atrévete a probar estos platillos con chile picante.
Plaza Garibaldi
¿Cómo no olvidar la música mexicana? Visita la Plaza Garibaldi en una de las noches que estés en esta ciudad. Deléitate cantando con los mariachis mientras comes comida típica y un buen tequila. ¡Salud!

5 Places in Mexico City worth visiting!
I was going through some photos from Pope Francis that have viralized during his visit to Mexico and I remembered a trip I undertook a few years ago to the Mexican capital during a cold December. I still remember the awe that embraced me because beauty and the importance of many places that I was able to visit and that have left me with the desire to return. In this entry, you´ll find a short summary of the places that I consider as “unmissable”!
- Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City and The Zocalo
In order to get here you can do so by taxi, subway or bus. If you think you´ll get lost, just keep in mind that you´re going to the main square in central Mexico City and that you can ask anyone because everyone knows how to get there! What really amazed me about this place is that it has been built over Aztec temples. Visitors have the opportunity to see certain parts of these ancient building that show the perfection in which this civilization worked.
2. Our Lady of Guadalupe Temple
One of the most known images of the Virgin Mary around the world is the advocacy of Guadalupe. In this temple, you´ll have the opportunity to see the tilma (wool piece) in which the image of the Virgin Mary was portrayed since one of her apparitions in 1531.Most of the pilgrims visit this sanctuary in December since the feast day is on the 12th.
3. Frida Kahlo Museum – Casa Azul
At Coyoacán delegation, in the Federal District of Mexico City, you can visit Frida Kahlo´s Museum, known also as Casa Azul (Blue house), where she lived with her husband the artist, Diego Rivera. In this place you´ll find Frida´s diverse drawings and paintings that portrayed her deepest and most frustrating feelings due some unfortunate moments that she lived. I recommend that you walk calmly around the house and travel through time to understand the historical impact in her life.
4. Taco and Tortas – Street Food
You can´t deny that Mexico is also known because of its food! Therefore, during your visit to Mexico City, try to visit one of the many street food places that sell tacos and tortas. If you´re brave enough, eat them with hot chili!
5. Garibaldi Square
Visit Garibaldi Square so that you can enjoy live performances of mariachis. In here, you´ll be able to find mariachis singing famous songs. So, make the time to visit this place and enjoy the music while you eat Mexican food and drink tequila! Cheers!
