La aventura hacia Machu Picchu inició una madrugada de agosto. Para llegar ahí debes hacerlo en tren, por ejemplo, desde la estación de Poroy (Cusco) y Valle Sagrado (Ollantay Tambo y Urubamba). Existe diferentes trenes que hacen el viaje hacia Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) pero posiblemente la mejor opción sea con Peru Rail. Entre los trenes de esta compañía está el Vistadome, el cual está rodeado completamente de vidrio dándole la oportunidad al viajero de tener vistas únicas para tomar fotos impresionantes.
El viaje hacia Machu Picchu con Peru Rail estuvo lleno de mucha emoción. Todos en el vagón en el que viajaba hablaban de lo mágico que sería llegar a Machu Picchu y de otros lugares que habían visitado durante su viaje al Perú. El staff del tren fue muy cordial y amigable, lo cual hizo que ese tiempo fuese relajado y placentero. Ellos nos explicaban sobre los lugares por lo que estábamos pasando, entre ellos el Sky Lodge Hotel y el Nevado Verónica. Finalmente, después de unas horas se llega a Aguas Calientes, también conocida como Machu Picchu Pueblo.
Después que visitas Machu Picchu y debes regresar a Cusco o Valle Sagrado, el viaje de regreso con Peru Rail – Vistadome es… ¡Especial, simplemente mágico! Esas horas en el camino hacia Cusco, en este tren con su techo de vidrio, fueron uno de los mejores momentos de mi viaje al Perú. Aún recuerdo cómo quede hipnotizada cuando me senté en mi asiento al lado de la ventana mientras escuchaba la música Andina. Una de las canciones que enamoró a mis oídos fue “Valicha” de William Luna. Tuve que preguntar cómo se llamaba la canción a uno de los del staff quienes me complacieron poniendo la canción varias veces durante el viaje.
Además de la música, mis ojos no creían que los paisajes que veían eran reales. Como estaba atardeciendo, los colores de los Andes tenían colores únicos, las sombras de las montañas hacían que todo fuera más hermoso que una postal. Fue uno de esos momentos que ni una foto logra capturar tanta belleza de la naturaleza. ¡De igual manera tomé fotos para compartírselas pero tienen que verlo con sus propios ojos!
Cuando empiezas a pensar “Ya vamos a llegar.”, disfrutarás del entretenimiento abordo. Los del staff del vagón dejan a un lado sus roles y se convierten en modelos y bailarines de danzas típicas. Verás una pasarela de abrigos con diseños únicos de alpaca, los cuales, si te gusta alguno, tienes la oportunidad de comprarlo al instante.
Unos minutos antes de llegar a la estación de Poroy (Cusco) uno de los del staff se acercó a mi asiento y me dio una pequeña postal y me pidió que escribiera mis comentarios sobre el viaje en TripAdvisor.com. En todo el vagón solo a mí me hicieron esta solicitud. Esto me hizo sentir muy privilegiada y admirada porque en ningún momento había mencionado que tenía un blog sobre viajes. ¡Creo que escogieron a la persona indicada! 😉

The way back from Machu Picchu was…
It was early in the morning when the adventure to Machu Picchu started. If you want to go to Machu Picchu you must take a train. You can do so either from Poroy (Cusco) and Sacred Valley (Ollantay Tambo and Urubamba) stations. You will find different train options and one, if not the best, is with Peru Rail. One of their trains, the Vistadome is surrounded entirely by glass which provides travelers the opportunity to take fantastic pictures of its panoramic views.
The journey to Machu Picchu with Peru Rail was filled with an atmosphere of excitement. Everyone in the wagon where I was, were talking about this magical place that we were heading to and other places that they had visited in Peru. The train´s staff was polite and friendly, making you feel comfortable and relaxed. They would explain us about specific sites that we were passing by. Among them were the Sky Lodge Hotel and the Veronica Mountain. Finally, after a few hours, you will arrive to Aguas Calientes also known as Machu Picchu town.
After you visit Machu Picchu and it´s time to go back to Cusco or Sacred Valley, the journey back with Peru Rail – Vistadome is… special, so magical! Those hours, on the way back, at this train with its ceiling dome-shaped, were probably one of the best moments (if not the best!) from my trip to Peru. I remember when I sat on my seat next to the window and the staff played a CD with Andean music. In that instant, I was hypnotized by the songs and just wanted time to stop! One of the songs that enchanted my ears was “Valicha” by William Luna. I didn´t know its name so I asked to one of the staff members. He even showed me the CD in case I wanted to buy it and he played it like 3 times for me during the journey!
Besides the music, my eyes couldn´t believe the beauty of the landscape! The Andes were so impressive! I was amazed on how the visual effect of the sunset changed its colors and how the shadows from the other mountains made the scenery prettier than a postcard. Besides the Andes, I was delighted to see the magnificent Urubamba River during the entire journey.
Just when you´re thinking, “We´re arriving!” you´ll enjoy an entertaining show onboard! The staff from Peru Rail change their roles and become models and dancers of traditional songs. You´ll have the opportunity to see unique designs made from alpaca wool and if you like one of them, you can buy it immediately.
A few minutes before we arrived to Cusco, one of the staff members approached to my seat and gave me a post card and asked me to write a review about the journey on TripAdvisor.com. I was the only person on the wagon to whom the post card was given and asked to write about the Vistadome. I felt so privileged and in awe because I hadn´t mentioned that I have a travel blog! So, they chose the right person, I guess! 😉
